The Villa Molaroni Park, in Pesaro, is one of those soul places whose spell you cannot but yield to.
It is certainly not one of the most famous cultural sites in Pesaro. However, as soon as you enter it, you feel wrapped up in a magical place, as if you had just stepped into a fairy tale. You become a part of the park, excited and enchanted, and all you can do is surrender to your senses.
Spring is the best time of the year to visit the park. The sweet smell of flowers, little children screaming and playing in the park, the beautiful sight of the three-storey villa enriched with columns, arches and stairs, and the breath-taking old trees and bushes covering 8.000 square meters: everything looks exactly where it should be. And everything, magically, is exactly where it should be inside of you too.
The villa today hosts the town Sea Museum, a little jewel and a must for those of you who – like me – love Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Same romance and magical atmoshpere.
It is an ancient Mariner,
And he stoppeth one of three.
“By thy long grey beard and glittering eye,
Now wherefore stopp’st thou me?”
I am particular fond of the figurhead below. How many seas has she crossed? How many harbours? How many storms? And yet, she is so daring. Still leaning out to the world.
Villa Molaroni park is a place where you encounter Alterity. And become one with it.
And if, at night, at the end of May, you walk over the closed gates and dance with the fireflies, you may never come back.
