Ok. I cheated. Valentino Rossi, one of the most successful motorcycle racers of all time with nine Grand Prix World Championships to his name, does not live in my neighbourhood. But his mother does! Besides, he was born in Tavullia, a little village in the surrounding hills (a 20-minute drive from my hometown Pesaro), where he often returns to celebrate with his official fan club.
I happened to be in Tavullia on Tuesdays with my sister Cristina, our mutual friend Federico and an acquaintance of my sister. My sister’s acquaintance was driving from the neighboring Romagna, so we decided to meet in Tavullia for a quick lunch together, as Tavullia lies in a strategic position between the two regions Emilia Romagna and Marche (incidentally, it also happens to be just a few kilometers away from the enchanting castle of Gradara!)
I hadn’t been in Tavullia for quite a long time (a year at least) and, as soon as I got there, I realized that the whole little village – dating back to the Early Middle Ages – has turned into a Fairy Land for all fans of Valentino Rossi. A huge picture of Valentino riding his motorcycle (n.46 of course, his lucky number) greeted me from the medieval walls upon my arrival. I realized then that Tavullia, besides being the seat of Valentino’s official fan club, hosts now the official Valentino store (VR 46 store), an ice-cream shop, a ‘bar’ and a restaurant (‘osteria’), all entitled to the world champion (‘da Rossi’). If you take a look at the pictures below, you’ll see that even the ‘historic’ newspaper shop of the village (once also barber’s shop…) – best known as ‘dalla Berta’ (Berta’s) – could not resist the temptation of ‘Valentinorossization’ 😉
What about you? Are you a fan of Valentino Rossi too?
