Italy’s aerobatic team ‘Tricolor Arrows’ performing across Pesaro sky

When I heard about the ‘Frecce Tricolori’ (lit. ‘Tricolor Arrows’) coming to Pesaro this Summer I could hardly believe it! My beloved 313° Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico, the aerobatic team of the Italian Aeronautica Militare, was actually scheduled to perform in Pesaro on July 31st.

I’ve planned several times to visit their Rivolto Air Force Base, in the north-eastern region of Friuli Venezia Giulia but sofar I’ve never managed to make this dream come true (who knows? maybe next September).

Anyway, I went to see their performances in Falconara and Fano in the past, and did not miss their ‘rehearsal’ in Pesaro last Friday when they performed using ‘just’ the white smoke. And, of course, I was there yesterday, one hour before the show began, to get the best view on their amazing show performed – this time – using tricolor smoke (green, white and red: the colors of the Italian Flag).

The team flies the Aermacchi MB-339-A/PAN and they are totally out of their minds! Their show is breath-taking and makes me proud to be Italian 🙂

The pictures I took speak for themselves, even if I took them with a non-professional camera.

25 minutes of non-stopping awe till the very end of their show, when the team flies away towards the horizon line with Luciano Pavarotti singing ‘Nessun dorma’ from Puccini’s ‘Turandot’.

  1. Hello Simona– from what I understand of where you are, I think you are not near the earthquake. But please know, I am praying for the people there, for the tragic loss and all that is ahead for them. God have mercy. Hope all is well with you, blog friend…

  2. Dear Rhonda. How sweet of you! Thank you so much for your warm concern and prayers. I was in Berlin with my family when the earthquake took place and got back just two days ago. One of the most damaged villages, Pescara del Tronto, is actually in the Marche region, where I live. My parents could feel the earthquake and a few old churches around our town underwent little damages. We live in the northern part of Marche. No victims here, thank God. Grazie mille for your prayers. We Italians have been so moved by the terrible consequences of the earthquake, and we also got moved by the help that foreign countries are willing to give us. Most of all though we cherish warm messages from friends, close and far away. Like the one you sent me so full of concern and empathy. God bless you and your family 🙂

  3. This post reveals an entirely new side of the author of Where Lemons Blossom. I hadn’t pictured the classical musician, scholar and traveler relating the details of modern jet aircraft. Great photos.

  4. Hi Brad! Tomorrow I’m leaving for Friuli Venezia Giulia, up in the north of Italy. Guess what I’m going to visit? The military air base of Frecce Tricolori in Rivolto (in the province of Udine)!!! I’m so excited 🙂 More pictures, and a video, are coming next (if they allow us to take them). Take care.

    • Thank you so much, Rhonda. I’ll be back soon, maybe even later on today. I’ve needed some time to reconsider a few major things in life (oops). In the end I decided that my ‘blog project’ has become an inseparable companion of mine (a lovebird?). Grazie for your sweet comment. My best wishes to you and to your family. xoxo

      • I’ve taken a few blog-breaks too Simona. Is it worth the time and energy I give it? What about the people right around me who need care and attention? What is God’s call on my life/time? But I do love the creating, cooking… and meeting people like you. So I’m trying to blog, but keep it controlled and focus on real life here. Does that make sense?? Happy to hear from you!! Blessings. xo

        • You are absolutely right, Rhonda. I mean, I felt exactly the way you described, wondering if I hadn’t better using my time doing something else… something more important, wiser, more useful for my family and the others. As you say, I guess that it all boils down to focusing on real life. Thank you for your wise words 🙂
